Architectural Shingle Installation in Mount Vernon, KY

Architectural Shingle Installation in Mount Vernon, KY

Architectural shingles, also called laminated or dimensional shingles, are two layers of asphalt mat bonded together. The extra layer gives them a thicker shadow line, more weight per square, and in most product lines a higher wind rating than flat three-tab.

Mount Vernon, KY Shingle Roof Repair helps homeowners in Mount Vernon, KY find asphalt shingle roofing crews for architectural shingle installation on sections, additions and full slopes. Getting it right is mostly about the details people do not see:

• A proper starter strip at the eaves and rakes so the first course is sealed down
• Nails driven in the manufacturer's nailing zone, usually a narrow band where the two layers overlap
• Correct offset between courses so joints do not stack and channel water
• Matching hip and ridge cap shingles rather than cut-up field shingles

Nail placement matters more on laminated shingles than on three-tab. A nail driven above the common bond area holds only one layer, and that is how architectural shingles slide or blow off years later.
